What does God do with the broken places in our lives? Inspired by Ian Cartwright’s novel Scent and Stone, this retreat invites you into the world of Nehemiah and the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls. Through Scripture, storytelling, prayer and guided reflection, we will discover how the work of rebuilding stone by stone mirrors God’s patient work of restoring the human heart. Drawing on themes of compassion, resilience, hope and renewal, the day offers opportunities for quiet reflection, conversation and prayer. Whether you are facing change, seeking fresh direction, or simply longing to spend time with God, this retreat offers a gentle invitation to notice where God may be at work in your own story. No previous knowledge of the book of Nehemiah or the novel is needed. Copies of Scent and Stone will be available for those who would like to continue the journey beyond the retreat.
Ian Cartwright is an author, spiritual director, Compassion Focused Therapy therapist and ordained Methodist minister.
